Vier Türme

Löhrstraße/Am Plan/Markstraße/Altengraben, 56068 Koblenz

The Four Towers are an ensemble of four historic buildings in Koblenz's old town, at the intersection of the streets Am Plan - Löhrstraße - Altengraben - Marktstraße.

The four houses with the ornate oriel towers were built in 1608 and, after being destroyed in 1688 by Louis XIV in the Palatinate War of Succession, were restored between 1689 and 1692 and the oriels were renewed. A passageway was built into the corner of the house "Zum grünen Baum" in 1950. It offered pedestrians a way out when the tram, which existed from 1899-1967, turned the corner here. The house "Zum heiligen Petrus" housed a pharmacy from 1730 until the 2000s. The house with the plants and putti on the bay window was the only one to survive the bombings of the Second World War almost unscathed. On the fourth building, the "Hauptwache", guns, flags, muskets and horns remind us of the Electorate soldiers who carried out police duties from here. The building housed the main guard of the Prussian police until 1848.
