Schönborn'sche Aue is an inland island on the Rhine that was deliberately silted up in the 19th century. It is one of a series of islands located in the Inselrhein between Mainz and Bingen. There is an allotment site and agricultural land on the floodplain. Since the beginning of 2013, plans have been implemented to dredge the former old Rhine arm as part of renaturation work in order to detach the floodplain from the mainland again. This work was successfully completed in November 2015.
