Geisenheim is located directly on the Rhine.

Despite the main road that separates the town from the banks of the Rhine, a recreational area around one kilometer long was created directly on the river. The starting point was the erection of the fighter pilot memorial - the so-called “Fliegerdenkmal” - on the banks of the Rhine in Geisenheim in 1959. It commemorates the fallen airmen of the two world wars. International reconciliation and the prevention of future wars were the message of the initiators from the very beginning and even today, every three years an airmen's meeting with broad international participation takes place at the memorial. Architecturally, the “Fliegerdenkmal” is today regarded as a particularly vivid example of New Objectivity.

After the inauguration of the memorial, the surrounding Rhine facilities between the campsite and the boathouse were initially designed as an open park by members of the former teaching and research institute - today's Hochschule Geisenheim University. The park's originally extensive visibility has now been obscured by the trees between the main road and the banks of the Rhine. Visitors from near and far will find plenty of shady places to sit and relax.

Every year in May, the “Besser-als-nix-Festival” takes place around the monument and the surrounding park with its spacious adventure playground and play equipment is a popular meeting place for all generations. This also applies to the adjoining café and restaurant “Bootshaus”, the youth center, the festival meadow and bowling alley as well as the Geisenheim wine tasting stand, which is run by local winegrowers. Steps for seating and a small beach have been created on the banks of the Rhine. The much-used pedestrian path and the European long-distance cycle path run parallel to the Rhine. In the Rhine meadows - embedded in the unique Rhine landscape - you can experience the Rheingau lifestyle at its best.
