Gartenanlage Kloster Eberbach
Kloster Eberbach, 65346 Eltville am Rhein
Here you will find various garden forms, some in baroque style, but mainly parkland.
The gardens around Eberbach Monastery, a former Cistercian abbey near Eltville am Rhein, cover 7.5 hectares. The monastery, famous for its viticulture, was one of the oldest and most important Cistercian abbeys in Germany. Located in the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park, the complex with its Romanesque and early Gothic buildings is one of the most important artistic monuments in Europe.
The gardens were designed at the beginning of the 18th century. The concept that was realized in the process often incorporated secular influences and gave rise to contemporary formal gardens, such as had already been implemented in palace gardens and parks in Germany up to 50 years earlier.
Not only the monastery itself, but also the nearby restaurant and wine shop are well worth a visit.
